From grooming gangs to child abuse: is social work working?
Join me at the Battle of Ideas
In this, my first, Substack post I would first of all like to say ‘hello!’ and secondly invite you to join me at the Battle of Ideas.
I will be speaking on From Grooming Gangs to Child Abuse: Is Social Work Working? at Church House in Westminster, London, on Saturday 15 October.
Alongside me on the panel will be Tom Bewick, chief executive of Federation of Awarding Bodies; Dr Rakib Ehsan, author of Beyond Grievance: what the Left gets wrong about ethnic minorities; Susie Hawkes, senior lecturer in social work at the University of Wolverhampton; and, chairing the discussion, Dr Ken McLaughlin, author of Social Work Politics and Society: from radicalism to orthodoxy.
I hope you will be able to join me here as I develop my arguments - in the less than two weeks that are left before the festival - and at the event itself, for a packed weekend of engrossing debate.
